Work visa to the Czech Republic for citizens of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. A Czech national visa (Type D) is issued to foreign nationals who travel to the Czech Republic exclusively for the purpose of employment. This work visa can be granted for different durations depending on the length of stay and terms of the work contract. Typically, one can apply for a Czech work visa valid for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years. A 2-year work visa is usually provided if the applicant has an employment contract for that period – the visa will specify the employer’s name and the position offered to the foreign worker. A 1-year visa may be issued if, in addition to working, the applicant plans to undergo an internship or training program alongside the job. For seasonal work, it is advisable to obtain an entry permit for 6 months. In some cases, a work visa to the Czech Republic by invitation can be issued for the exact duration specified in the employment contract.
How to get a job in the Czech Republic? For non-EU foreigners, obtaining a Czech Work Visa (national visa D) is the standard pathway. There is a clear sequence of steps to follow in order to successfully secure this visa:
-
Secure a job offer and invitation from a Czech employer. This is the key requirement and serves as the primary basis for the work visa application. The job vacancy intended for a foreign worker must be registered with the Czech Labor Office. The employer will provide an official invitation or work contract, which confirms the intention to hire the foreign candidate.
-
Prepare the required documentation. The applicant must compile a complete set of documents for the embassy. This includes a completed application form, a valid passport, recent passport-size photos, and other supporting documents as required. It is essential to provide proof of qualifications (diplomas, certificates) and at least 1 year of work experience in the relevant field of the job. If the profession is regulated (for example, a medical doctor), the candidate must undergo the diploma validation process. All foreign documents must be translated into Czech and notarized.
-
Submit the application at the Czech Embassy/Consulate. Once the dossier is ready, it should be submitted to the Czech Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s country of residence. The applicant will need to pay the visa fee and may be invited for an interview or to provide biometric data, depending on the embassy’s procedures.
-
Obtain the work visa. After the competent Czech authorities review the application, a decision is made. If approved, the work visa for the Czech Republic (a visa sticker in the passport) is issued to the applicant. The processing time is usually around 2–3 weeks from the date of submission of the complete application. Upon issuance, the foreign worker must travel to the Czech Republic within the timeframe specified (often within 15–20 days of the visa issuance).
Note: Before applying, you should consider additional requirements and conditions. The inviting company in Czechia must demonstrate its ability to pay the foreign employee a suitable salary, provide accommodation, and cover all expenses related to the employee’s stay in the country. Czech authorities will carefully verify these guarantees. Moreover, the Czech Consulate and border control monitor compliance with all labor laws, ensuring that employers and foreign employees follow the rules. Our company, through its local representative offices in the Czech Republic, keeps up-to-date information on the legal standing of potential employers, which helps us ensure our clients only work with verified and trustworthy companies.
